One Million Monarchs Scholarship Opportunity

One Million Monarchs is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assemble a healing path forward for teens grieving the loss of a parent, sibling or close friend by encouraging expression and personal growth, supporting grieving parents and providing resources to lessen the financial burden of loss.

As part of our commitment to helping bereaved youth stay on track toward their future goals, we will be offering a scholarship each year to graduating McHenry County HS Seniors who have experienced this type of loss in their lifetime and are enrolled in a OMM program.  Our scholarships have been made possible through the support of the McHenry County Community at various fundraising events throughout the year.  The award will be presented to the student on Scholarship Night and/or at a One Million Monarchs Board Meeting.  This scholarship must be used to pay tuition at a college or university or trade school.

The Board of Directors for One Million Monarchs will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of their total application package.  The student will be evaluated on academic performance, extra-curricular activities, volunteerism, and on their essay response addressing the way they handled the challenges associated with losing a close family member during their youth.

Applicants must meet all of these requirements to be considered:

  • Currently a senior in good standing in a McHenry County High School and enrolled in a OMM program.

  • Recommendation/Endorsement of a Faculty Representative

  • Experienced the loss of a close loved one during childhood, such as a parent or sibling.

  • Exhibited strong focus on academics and extracurricular activities, including volunteerism/mentorship
